In 2018, the school had a programme to provide necessities to the low-income group living in flats that are rented out by Housing & Development Board (HDB). The school asked students who are willing, to donate food items like rice, salt, soya sauce and etc.
When we knocked on the doors, the residents there opened the doors with a look of surprise when we gave them the food packs. They were so thankful as they were currently having a hard time to get by as they had not much income to buy food to give them an average healthy 2000 calories per day.
There was one resident we came across that was aged 100 years old at that time. He told us that he was going through a tough time as he had health problems and troubles of not having sufficient food to go through the day. We pitied the man as the cost of living in Singapore is so high and we shared the same experience.
It taught us to appreciate what we have and to help those in need when we can.
